We are here in Montclair Village, a subburb of Oakland. The 6th annual Montclair Village Wine & Jazz is about to begin. Come by the Twisted table if you have plans to attend. There are 24 wineries under one large tent, we're the cats with the rubber chickens! Meowwwww! 1 to 6 pm is the time to wine !!
The 08 estate Tempranillo is shown above in all of its fermentative glory...the technical term we use for a fermentation progressing like this is "Roaring"! We are doing quite a bit more fermentations this year with native yeasts, and this is one of them. This lot is destined for our flagship wine...The Spaniard
So this is how it works...
Get beautifully consistent fruit from Tanner Vineyard
Crush that Syrah into a tank
Receive intensely flavored Viognier grapes on the same day
Lightly press Viognier to .4 bars of pressure
Dump very wet & sloppy skins (shown above) out of press and into bins
Dump those bins on top of the Syrah ferment from Tanner
VoilĂ !
Once the intense flavor of the Viognier skins integrates with the Syrah, we'll have our first Syrah/Viognier since 2005!
